We were hoping the Amana NED7300WW would have most of the bells and whistles of the more expensive dryers, ranked higher in our lineup, but that was not the case. It has many more bells and whistles than older dryers, but it does not have a long list of impressive features. The features on its short list are pretty cool though.
The AutoDry System is designed to expend up to 10 percent less energy overall by using sensors to monitor temperature and dryness levels so it can halt the cycle as soon as the load is finished, even if that is before the end of the pre-programmed cycle. Most of the newer-generation dryers include this feature. That does not make it any less awesome.
Even at this lower price range, Amana invested in dampeners to muffle the sound of this clothes dryer and in a stabilized basket to stifle vibration. That will be a wonderful feature, especially for those who have open floor plans. The rattling and rumbling of your previous dryers will be a distant memory.
This unit’s list of cycles is short compared to other dryers, but it should handle most jobs just fine. The Heavy Duty Cycle works well for jeans and towels, the Normal Cycle will handle everyday loads with a wide variety of fabrics, and the Delicate Dry will take on the stuff you used to air dry for fear of shrinking and causing too much wear and tear. There is also a Timed Dry if you want control over the length of each cycle and Air Dry, which will allow you to dry without heat. That is handy for things like foam pillows and throw rugs.
This unit does not have the snazzy time remaining display of some dryers, but it does have controls that are designed to be easy to operate. Just touch the button in question until there is a light by your preferred selection, and you will be on your way. The controls are also easy to disable so the fingers of curious children do not change your settings.
The flexibility to stack this unit will come in handy. Not everyone has a huge laundry room with a picture perfect spot for washers and dryers. This unit has a rather large capacity compared to a lot of dryers, but it can still be tucked away in a corner and do its job.
You will not find features like steam settings, sanitize cycles or advanced wrinkle protection on this unit like you would on most new dryers. You may also notice the lack of a drying rack. We realize this Amana dryer costs less, but it would still be nice to see at least one of those items included. The warranty is pretty standard. Amana offers one year of coverage on parts and labor. We love the customer service websites that offer live chat. The Amana one is not among those, but we like the website overall.
Like all of the dryers in our lineup, Amana NED7300WW will blow old dryers away in every way, but we like the competition better. For the best mix of features, refer to our review of the Samsung DV410AEW/XAA.
The lower price point will be worth it for some.
The list of features is short.
Other dryers will suit most customers better.
